How to use Nest Temp sensors without them controlling the thermostat

Hi, I use a nest temperature sensor and thermostat in my home but I would like to add two temperature sensors to put in the apartment above my disconnected garage so that I can monitor the temperature in the garage apartment while I’m away. I do not want the temperature sensors in the garage to affect or control the thermostat in the house in anyway. I have mini splits in the apartment and do not want the sensors to control those either (although I dont think thats even possible). But, I do want to be able to get alerts from those temperature sensors if the temperature goes below a certain degree in the apartment. I basically want to use these temperature sensors as a safety to make sure the temperature doesn’t get too cold in the apartment in case the power goes out or something while I’m away. Can you please tell me how to do that or make an update within the nest system so that it’s possible? Thank you!

Hi JoeRoberts,

Thanks for posting here in the Community forum and for showing interest in our Nest Temperature Sensor. The Nest Temperature Sensors are designed to work in conjunction with the Nest Thermostat and do not have standalone functionality. They are primarily intended to help the thermostat better understand the temperature in different areas of your home and adjust the heating or cooling accordingly. Currently, there was no direct way to use Nest Temperature sensors independently without them affecting or controlling the thermostat or HVAC systems.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Best,

Zoe
