Humidifier always run. Have to manually turn off and on as needed.

My HVAC guy says the humidifier is set to come on as needed.   Only way I can get the humidifier to run is to manually control its on/off.  It never shuts off if I turn it off and never turns on when needed.   Doesn't matter if the heat is on or not.

Furnace is a Trane S9V2B080U4SBCA
Humidifier is a Honeywell HE205A1000  (24v, 7 watts)

Since it won't let me add a simple jpg, here is the wiring layout and tech info.
Y1 = Yellow (Cool)
G = Green (Fan)
W1 = White (Heat)
C = Blue (24v Common)
* = Yellow (Humidifier)
Rh = Red (Power)

Model = Display 3.4
Backplate Model = Backplate 5.3
Updated = Never (had this thermo for a long time, connected always to internet so not sure what this means)
Software = 6.2-27
Battery = 3.91v

Everything else seems to run fine, think this is the 2nd winter with this whole setup.  Always had to manually control the humidifier.

Thoughts?

Hi @jimbofoxman,

Thanks for posting in the community forum. I'm sorry to hear you're going through this with your humidifier and your Nest thermostat. I understand it can be frustrating when your device isn't working as expected. Don't worry, I'm here to help you. To help me with that, I have some questions for you:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • What other strange symptoms have you experienced since the problem started?
  • Are there any error messages? If so, what are they exactly?
  • When was the last maintenance check for your HVAC system?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Cheers,
Jonathan

  • I have the Nest Learning 3rd Gen.
  • Their are no other strange symptoms.
  • No error messages
  • 3 yrs old, no maintenance.

This has been doing it since it was installed.   Granted it was probably 7 months from install until the first time it ran and would of needed the humidifier.  Just trying to get some input before seeing if they need to come out.  Don't think they deal with Nests that much.

Hi @jimbofoxman,

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate the information shared.

Since the humidifier has not worked since it was installed, I recommend having a local technician check if it was installed correctly. I understand that you're looking for any suggestion, but as your thermostat works and you aren't having any other strange behavior with your device, a technician is the best option.

Please let me know if you have any questions from here, as I'd be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Sincerely,
Jonathan
