Hi User 11504123433942228294,

I'm afraid not, setup requires Wi-Fi and a functioning internet connection.

Hello lwc726,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community Forum. I'd love to help

Controlling Nest Thermostats manually even without the Wi-Fi connection is possible. The set-up will be different depending on the type of Nest Thermostat you have. You can follow these steps as a guide:

For Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E:

  • If this is a first time installation and setup, you should see options such as Language, Equipment, the Nest App, Internet, etc on the screen.
  • Proceed with the initial steps and skip the Nest app by selecting "not now."
  • Skip the Internet connection part and follow the prompts until you reach "finish setup."

For Nest Thermostat (2020):

  • Install a Google Home App in your phone and sign in to an account.
  • Proceed with the initial set up so your system would configure.
  • Once you reach the "Choosing your Wi-Fi network" part, skip this by selecting cancel or forcing the Google Home app to close.
  • Restart the thermostat device itself.
    • Pull off the display from the base and remove the batteries for 2 minutes.
    • Plug them back in and to its base.

Please let me know if that helps.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi lwc726,

I'm checking back in. Were you able to do the steps above? I'd be glad to hear from you — I'd like to make sure everything is working.

Thanks,

Mark

Hello and so kind of you to reply, we were looking after the grand kids last week. At any rate I will be following your directions. The home wifi will be cancelled for three months and wanted to  make sure I didn’t do something wrong. Thanks

The new not thing that worries me is the thermostat, is calling for the wifi to be setup.
now will that have a negative impact on the battery life if we have the thermostat not connect for three months to wifi?

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us, @lwc726. There should be no negative impact on its battery life as it was getting power from your HVAC system. But how's your Nest Thermostat? Were you able to set it up without the Wi-Fi network?

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Mark

Yes I was able to set the temp but was unsure of impact on  battery.

Thanks that should cover it thanks so much for all the help
