Hey, I actually went ahead and got the Nest thermostat but it's not working for me. So far I haven't been able to resolve it.
2 notes about my situation:
- I am in an apartment building without access to the furnace.
- I only have heating connected to the thermostat with R and W wires coming out of the wall. No C wire.
I initially connected the R and W wires to the Nest thermostat upon installation. I then received an error code saying I'm missing the C wire. After a while the power for the thermostat just ran out and I started seeing a "no power" message.
Since I don't have access to the furnace to connect the Google power thingy, I got a c-wire adapter that is claimed to work with Nest thermostat. I disconnected the original R wire and left it loose and connected the 2 wires from the adapter to the R and C ports. At this point I have 3 wires connected - R and C (coming from the adapter) and W (coming from the wall), The thermostat has full power without any errors or messages, but it doesn't seem to be controlling the furnace at all. I set the temperature and no heat comes out.
The furnace is definitely gas operated but I'm not sure what type it is. I tried both Forced Air and Radiator. Both don't seem to be doing anything.
Any ideas?
