I just bought an old home with antiquated systems. The previous thermostat has Y, G, R, B, and O wires separately. (The three other wires are attached to mercury) I'm fairly convinced the B wire is a C wire in disguise. Is my wiring compatible?

Alternatively, if my system is incompatible, what's the process to make it so?

Hi Mikayla,

I'm so sorry for the delay in our response, but I wanted to hop in here to make sure we addressed your concern. I can definitely understand the frustration when it comes to wiring issues as it can be very confusing to figure out sometimes, but I'm happy to look into this for you.

First off, I would suggest using the Compatibility Checker to see if your system is compatible. Then, if it is I would suggest using this article to help identify the different wires (and it does sound like your B wire is really a C-wire). If you're still having troubles after that, I would suggest contacting a pro to come out to help. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns. We're happy to help!
