Learning Thermostat and Heatlink Connectivity

Dset19

Hi,

I’ve recently moved into a house where there is a nest learning thermometer 3rd generation with the heatlink attached to the boiler.

the previous owners factory reset the whole system before leaving and I have tried to link the thermostat to the heatlink without success.

I’ve tried resetting both parts, but no matter what I try the thermostat always fails to connect to the heatlink. I’ve tried all the solutions I could find online but nothing seems to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

You say the Display fails to connect to the Heat Link, correct

For the sake of me going through any process, can you tell us all the solutions you have tried first?

Hi,

I have moved the display next to the heatlink and reset both devices multiple times (hold heatlink button for at least 30s twice before trying to connect)

Tried to manual pair using the code at the bottom of the heatlink

But each time it fails and shows the H71 error

Cheers

OK, a couple of things to check first. Once at the H71 screen go into........Tech - Heat Link. Now look at the 6 digit number, is that the same as the one you can see on the heat Link lid and the one you have put in?

Yes - it’s the same one as I see on the heatlink

You also need to check the number is the same by the left hand fixing screw. Slacken the lid screw and remove cover, on the left you will see the number. Does that still match.

Yes still the same

OK, as that’s confirmed try this. You pressed the button for 30 seconds, keep it pressed for longer. You MUST have a steady blue pulsing light. Press the Heat Link button and keep pressed, do not release the button at all. When you see a steady blue pulsing light, keep pressed for a further 10 seconds. You will now have a good pulsing light, now release the button. Do that twice. Then go to the display and click “Replace Heat Link” follow the instructions on the screen.

Lets see what happens now, but remember the blue light is crucial do not release to early, just keep pressed if in doubt. You can keep pressed all day it doesn’t matter,  just make sure it’s a steady pulse.

Thanks but my pulsing blue light lasts for a couple of seconds only, then goes back to a slow blinking even after holding for a few mins

Have you powered of first for a couple of minutes before you try the reset?

Yes just tried turning the power off, then press the button on the heatlink, but the pulsing only lasts a few seconds then goes to a slow pulsing blue light

You need a slow blue pulsing light,

Haha ok….in that case I’ve done that all but still nothing!

Let me just recap, you have a slow pulsing light, you have setup with replace heat link, and nothing still?

Correct

OK, the only other way you can fix this is with a temporary wire connection as you have the setup in a confused error. You need to connect a wire from terminal T1 &T 2 on the Heat Link, to the terminals on the base plate. This only a temporary connection, so just a short cable will do. I just use a short length a foot long for example, and have the display held in my hand connected via the base plate. Once connected up, restart the display by pressing until you see the house appear, then release. Wait for the instructions and follow them to the end. When set, go straight to reset all settings and that will take you back to factory. You can then reinstate the display as normal, and set the thermostat up again.

Make sense?

Sorry, stupid question, but what sort of wire would be needed?

Anything that fits in the terminals, it’s only 12v. Something like the flex on a TV would do, or 2 separate wires, you are just using the wire as a temp connection. Obviously turn the power off before you connect, and don’t touch the wires together.

I’ve connected via a wired connection to the heatlink but when I try and establish the wireless connection I’m back to the same errors as before! Any ideas please?

I have no idea what you mean.

You have connected wirelessly, but when you try and establish the wireless connection?

Are you not connected now then?

What do you mean wirelessly I thoughts that s the issue?

Explain what you have done?

I'm here with the same issue...

Still searching for the answer and I own 2 x Heat Links and 2 x thermostats. I'm now into hour nummber 6 over 3 days of trying to find information for the fix/trying to get my heating working.

I'll figure it out and post the answer here if I find it.

The reason I said look here is to READ, not to add another question!!!!!!!

But this?

I’ve connected via a wired connection to the heatlink but when I try and establish the wireless connection I’m back to the same errors as before! Any ideas please?

So I've now got a link to someone with the same issue which is unresolved and been told to read this issue. It's cool that someone else has the same issue so if anyone can help either of us, that would be great.

Thanks
