Unlinking Thermostat from account

Hi

I have moved into a new home with a Nest Thermostat already installed and controlling my heating. It has already been linked to an account, I assume the previous owners, so I think I need to do a factory reset in order to be able to link it to my Nest app. Question: if I factory reset will it unlink from my heating as well? If so I would prefer not to and just do without the phone app, I have setup a heating schedule via the Thermostat directly, and it controls the heating well so dont want to impact that

@Stebbo , the simple answer is No. A factory reset will not delete the Nest Account the Nest Thermostat is registered to. 
Contact your realtor and have them teach out to the Seller and direct them to go to nto their Google Nest App and perform a delete device.
