I have fitted a 3rd generation learning thermostat in our village hall which has numerous users during the day.
I have locked the thermostat with a pin and set a temperature range. When there are no users in the hall I have found that it is still possible to bring the heating on by turning the outside of the dial. Is there a way of stopping this?

@ajh1949 , controlling the thermostat in a public space has long been the problem HVAC industry. The common practice is to place the thermostat inside of a plexiglass locked container so people cannot physically touch the thermostat and change the temperature settings. The Google Nest attempted to create that limit how much a user can adjust the temperature on a locked thermostat in a residential setting.; You’ve discovered this. This is the temperature range. If what you are describing as you don’t want them to be able to touch the thermostat at all, you’re gonna have to put it inside of a lock box. The other choice is to set the upper range of the temperature to the maximum temperature you would allow the system to be at when locked.

@ajh1949 , what type of thermostat did you have located in your village hall before you decided to put in the nest thermostat? How did you prevent people from changing the temperature when you were not there?

We used a Danfoss thermostat controller on which you could set temperarures that were locked, other users could not alter it. The problem with it was that it was not WiFi and I had to reset it manually, once every 7 days.
