Lowest setting allowed

I was so excited to get the Nest thermostat for Christmas. I was very disappointed that it only works once in a while remotely through my phone and Echo.  Found out that I need a C wire. I am hoping my son can do it.

My biggest concern is that I have always set my thermostat at night to 45. This thermostat seems to only go down to 50. I get really warm at night and am very uncomfortable at 50 degrees. We have been having temps near 50 during the day in MI and again, I can't go lower than 50. I am very disappointed and wish I knew this before I asked for one. Is there a way I can override and set my thermostat lower than 50?

I see that I am not the only one that is unhappy that we can't set the thermostat below 50 degrees F. This is ridiculous. I am very uncomfortable at night at 50 degrees. Please change it so we can lower the thermostat lower than 50.  If I would have known this, I would have never asked my son to get it for me for Christmas. Very unhappy. I will probably change back to my old thermostat and sell this one if you can't help me. Can you help????

Hello Suzyq99r,

I'm sorry if you have to go through this, and we'd like you to have a better experience with your Nest Thermostat. Let's sort this out.

To isolate:

  • Could you please tell us what type of Nest Thermostat you have?
  • Who installed and set up your thermostat?
  • Did you create a temperature schedule?
  • Please double-check your Eco temperature settings. Change the set temperature if needed.

Please let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Mark

Helo Suzyq99r,

I'm sorry for the delay. We're trying to be as responsive as we can, but I'm happy to jump in to help.

I've got some more information for you. Changing the Eco temperatures could help. So please take a look at this article and let us know if you need more help.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark, Thank you for the info but not sure if this will work as I have 2 cats and don't want the heat going down low when I am gone.  All I want is to schedule my heat to go down to 45 at night, which I have been doing for years. I just wish I would have known before I got this.

All of a sudden my Nest stopped connecting to the internet again. I am having too many problems, it just isn't worth it.

Hi there,

I'm sorry if you have to go through this, and I totally understand the need to have comfortable temperatures at home, especially if you have pets around. Disabling the Home/Away Assist would help, as it'll disable the Eco temperatures as well and only follow your desired temperature, so you don't have to worry whenever you go out.

Please give that step a whirl and try editing your schedule temperature at 45 degrees to see if it works. Also, restart your thermostat to refresh it, and keep me posted on how it goes.

Regards,

Mark

Mark, I have the Learning Nest. My son installed it. Yes, I have a schedule set.

It is working with my phone now. It took about 2 weeks yo work. My problem is that I can't set the temperature at 45 degrees.

I am assuming that cannot be changed. I am not happy about this. Why is there a restricted lowest setting at 50? I am very uncomfortable at night. Thank you.
