I have a question regarding heating on the nest thermostat. Everyone should want their nest to run auxiliary heat only in emergency situations. Also known as emergency heat function on thermostat as it can cost 3-5x more in electricity bills. My question is if you have emergency heat function off in app, but you have heat pump balance on, will it automatically result in auxiliary heat usage even if it's set to max savings. Or is it better to turn heat pump balance completely off. If off will auxiliary still come on?

Hi Bobsnest2023,
Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay.
If your Heat pump balance is off, your Nest Thermostat will use your AUX heat based on the lockout temperature that you set. Your lockout temperature can be changed in Settings > Equipment > Heat Pump. To save energy, we suggest using a heat pump instead of emergency heat.
Let us know if that helps.
