Move thermostat to new Structure in the Nest App Android

Geezer

Added a new Nest Thermostat to the Nest Android app. Installed, tested, programmed and working properly. Then I figured out how to add a new structure in the phone app, and created the second home location. Now I need to move the already programmed and functioning thermostat (logical entity in the app only) from the first structure to the second. Anybody know if this is possible without deleting all the setup already performed?

If you can see the thermostat in the Home app as well, try these steps in the Home app:

  1. Tap your thermostat, then tap the settings cog at the top right.
  2. Tap "Device information" then tap "Home".
  3. Change the home to the desired one.

If those steps don't work, you'll need to:

  1. Reset your thermostat to defaults.
  2. Remove your thermostat from the Nest app.
  3. Add your Nest thermostat back to the Nest app in the other home. Make sure you select the new home in the app before you re-add your thermostat.

Thank you for your reply.  I don't have the Home App. I do everything through the Nest app for the several businesses and home where we have, or will have, Nest equipment installed. Is there a way to do this inside the Nest app, as my question stated?

I don't personally have any devices in the Nest app, but you might find a similar option to change the "home" in the app if you tap the thermostat in the Nest app.

Hi Geezer,

Thanks for posting here in Community forum. Nest Thermostats added to the Nest app can't be moved from one home to another unless you factory reset the Nest Thermostat to defaults, then remove the Nest Thermostat from your account, then redo the setup on the desired home where you want the device to be added. You can refer to the articles given by David King above to perform the steps, or you can follow the steps below if you have your account logged in via the Home app:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Open the home the device is in.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. Tap Settings > Device information > Home.
  5. Tap the home you want to move the device to > Next > Move device.
  6. If asked, tap the room you want to move the device to > Next.

Let me know how it goes.

All thanks for your help, @David_K

I don't have the Google home app. I don't want the Google home app. I asked about getting my Nest to work, and Giggles only answer is, junk that and get the Google app instead.

Hi Geezer,

I believe you have a Nest Learning Thermostat or a Nest Thermostat E. For you to be able to add your thermostat in a different home structure, you can try to   reset it to Account Connection.

You can follow these steps:

  1. Go to your thermostat Quick View menu.
  2. Select the gear icon for Settings.
  3. Turn the ring and look for Reset.
  4. Choose Account Connection.
  5. Once your thermostat is back in, connect your thermostat to your Network.
  6. Once it is connected, go back again to the Settings and look for the Nest app option to get the Entry Key.
  7. Go to the Nest app on your phone and proceed adding your thermostat to your preferred home structure using the Entry Key.

Regards,

Jenelyn

It worked. But Step #7 and the setup within the Nest App could use considerable improvement in the instructions.

Thanks for the help.
