My nest thermostat keeps calling for heat even when thermostat is off.

Thermostat calls for heat even when off or past heat setting. I’ve reset and restarted setti but fault still occurs. It’s been fine for three years.

My 3gen learning had the same issue start last night. House was getting warm so I switched to cool mode and even though the display was blue and shown to be in cooling the thermostat was not sending the correct signal to the heat pump for it to switch. Call an AC repair person and he verified thermostat doing something crazy so I went out to get the new cheap non gen 3 which fixed the issue but is this something related to gen 3 learning thermostats. Really would like to go back to my gen 3

Thanks for your reply. I’m waiting for an engineer. Seems your right about 3rd gen but Google/nest haven’t acknowledged any fault or even referred to the problem.
such a frustrating and irritating problem. I’ll update if and when I get an answer.

Any idea how to correct it

mine is doing the same thing

It isn’t the thermostat or it’s software. One of the motorised valves was faulty and not closing once the target heat reached. Manually closed and all ok. Replacement unit fitted and all ok.

Thanks for checking but as I posted earlier the problem of constant heat being call for was a stuck zonal valve actuator. Once replaced everything works perfectly. The replacement actuator was simple to unclip from the valve, reconnect the wires and problems solved.

After a couple days with the new plastic nest thermostat google nest disjointed hot mess  integration between it and my nest protect I decided it was time to leave Nest and go eco bee. It’s too bad that Google messed up on Nest and should have let Nest do its thing with the deep pockets of Google. This plastic crap they produced I can’t recommend to anyone needing to replace a broke gen 3 learning or buy new.

@Cb69 and @Hhhhhheart, a few questions to narrow it down: is there a C wire connected? Also, could you provide a rundown of all the steps you've tried?
