NEST E with no Cooling Mode

Fredymac
Community Member

I have a 4 wire system connected to a NEST E. Everything is working with the exception of a missing Cool Mode. In my Equipment Settings, 3 of the 4 wires are 'recognized'; Red, White and Green. The Y wire connection is not recognized. Because I do not have a Common wire, I moved the Green wire to C after viewing multiple YouTube videos suggesting this. Again, Heat works fine but there is no Cool mode or message indicating that it is not functional. Your thoughts will be appreciated.

Hello Fredymac,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd be happy to take a look into this for you.

It appears that the wire in the Y1 terminal isn't properly connected. Please remove your thermostat display from its base and ensure that the wire in the Y1 terminal is properly connected and the tab is pushed down. If possible, re-insert the wire and restart your thermostat to refresh.

Note: turn off the power of your HVAC system at the breaker box before touching the wires.

Please let me know if that helps, or if the issue still persists.

Regards,

Mark

Markjosephp,

Thank you for reaching out to me.

It appears that the ‘Y’ wire was not configured or assigned on the initial setup.

Using my phone App, I selected Wiring and assigned this wire to the NEST.

I now have Mode displaying all the available options including Heat, Cool, Heat & Cool and Off.

Thank you,

Fredymac

Hi Fredymac,

Perfect! I'm glad to know you've figured it out by reconfiguring its wires. You can now use your Nest Thermostat with your AC unit. Also, please let us know if you have any further questions; otherwise, we'll close the thread in 24 hours.

Best regards,

Mark
