Wiring wont work and I want to use a sensor upstairs and the nest device in the furnace room

I only have 4 wires going to my thermostat and nest wants me to install the thing in the furnace room. I was thinking of rewiring my house with a 5 wire wire but here is what I want to do for a short term fix.

Install a 5 wire wire in my furnace room and install the next thermostat there too. I then want to put a next sensor in the upstairs room where i want the temperature to be read.  I want the nest to always use the sensor. Eventually I will rewire the house but this is a quick fix. Can it be done?

Thanks

Hello cjcabel,

I'm sorry for the late reply, and thanks for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd love to help.

Aside from reading the temperature, your thermostat uses the sensor's reading to control when your system turns on and off. Your thermostat will ignore its own built-in temperature sensor during those times. Please take a look at this article to learn more about how it works and let us know if you need more help.

Regards,

Mark
