NEST Thermostat gives wrong ambient reading

angelohornak
Community Member

I have a new NEST learning thermostat that gives an ambient temperature reading that is 5 or 6 degress C too high.
Although the ambient temperature (measured on two other thermometers) is actually 18 degrees C, it reads 23, so to get heat I have to set the target temperature to 25.
This was installed by a local electrician, and everything works fine apart from this ambient temperature reading.
Can it be recalibrated ? If I need a replacement under warrranty can I just send back the detachable front of the thermostat ? I don't want to disconnect all the wiring
Thanks, Angelo

Hi angelohornak,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay. I'd love to help. Could you please check your Nest Thermostat Signal strength? To do this, go to your thermostat Settings then Technical Info and select Network. Also, restarting your thermostat might help.

Hi there,

Checking in — were you able to try checking your Nest Thermostat Signal Strength? How is it?

Thanks,
Jenelyn

Many thanks Jenelyn
Apologies for not answering sooner, but Easter has been busy.
I've checked the Signal Strength and it gives a reading of 58.
I think my problems were caused by the base unit being in a warm airing cupboard, and the thermostat  was mounted next to the cupboard, so the readings were giving the higher temperature of the cupboard. I've actually moved the Thermostat to a new location, about a metre away from the  cupboard , so the readings now agree with a separate digital thermometer, and I think my problems are solved.
However I don't see how I can tell Nest to use the readings from the Nest Thermostat (in the cooler ambient temperature) instead of the Heatlink hub (in the warmer cupboard). I think it's actually doing this, but is there a way to check ?
Thanks again for your help, Angelo

Hi there! Glad to hear that everything's alright with your thermostat. However, please take into account that the ambient temperature you see on the thermostat is not related to the location of the Heat Link, but to the location of the thermostat itself. Please let me know if there's anything I can help you with.

Thanks Oanna - yes I have seen (and replied to) the post you refer to. All working well now. Anglia
