I have a nest learning thermostat. We have had extremely cold weather lately and I noticed my home not heating as usual. It occurred to me the auxiliary heat hasn’t been turning on.
I went to the thermostat and tested the aux heat and it worked perfectly. I set my heat pump balance to max comfort and it’s still not using aux heat. I can “test” it and it will run for 30 or min or so, but over night my house dropped to 58° with the thermostat set to 67 and six heat never kicked in.

I have exactly the same issue. When temperature dropped to 11 degrees, nest learning thermostat shows AUX heat is on but no signal is sent to the air handler and heating coils not turning on. But, when we test equipment the aux heat it worked perfectly. i had pro showed up we checked everything. It is nest learning thermostat problem. what is the solution? I did reset, did not help. Change the thermostat?

Solved: Mine never tried to use auxiliary heat unless I was testing it. I eventually disconnected it from the app and when I reconnected it had me update the WiFi password.
I believe that may have been the issue. (We change our WiFi name months ago). I’m not sure why the WiFi connection would prevent the aux heat from coming on, but after reconnecting to the app and updating the WiFi it it now is now utilizing the aux heat again and keeping the house warm.

I did complete reset to factory setting. so it reconnected to wi-fi. The same. It connected to wifi network using my nest door bell setting actually. anyway , I will try to install new Nest unit today and se if it helps.

I solved mine too.
I resolved the issue. I checked wiring on the control board, and so that there is no communication to heat pump wires connected. I connected to the control board of the air handler via Bluetooth app coolcloud and set up NON COMM heat pump, single stage ( for my unit type). AUX heat started turning on from nest right away in all modes. So it works now. I guess it ha snot been working ever, as it was showing that aux heat is on, but it was not. We really noticed it when weather got below 25 degrees F. One remark, I had to also set up tonnage for the heat pump in the control board, so fan is not blowing to much air and not making to much noise in the house.
