My contractor installed my nest thermostat, but left it to me to program. When the app starts the installation portion, I click the "already installed" option. Nonetheless, it starts asking me technical questions about my home wiring. Why does it torment me this way, even though the device is already wired? Many thanks for any help.

Get the installer back, as that is not installed.
The only thing you need to do really is set up your desired heating/water settings for on/off, when it's installed correctly.
Any good installer would walk you through the setup, and make you understand how the system works, not just fit and walk away.
