Nest Thermostat set to 71 but not turning off when set point reached

Last night my Nest Learning Thermostat was set to 71.  At 5am I woke up and the room was hot. Temperature on the Nest was 78 and the heat was on.  I turned it down to 70 and the heat stopped.  Today it has gone on and off correctly at least a half dozen times.  I have no schedules on this thermostat.  Reluctant to call HVAC company at this point because not reproducible. So far this is a one-time problem, but what could the explanation be?

Me too. My Nest keeps turning itself up to 78. We have NEVER set the temp that high so it's not "learned". Still looking for any responses in this forum on how to prevent it. Honestly, I'd like to turn off all fancy features and just turn the temp up or down manually.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. We're sorry for any trouble this may have caused you. What type of Nest thermostat do you have? Depending on the Nest Thermostat, it may adapt to your daily routine, but we have ways to make it work the way you prefer. For Example. On the Nest Learning Thermostat, if you recently turned off the auto-schedule, the previous setup might still be in effect. The same goes if you have already set up a manual schedule and remove it; there might be a chance that it will adjust the schedule accordingly. This is part of the Nest Learning Thermostat algorithm, but it can easily be fixed by starting fresh on the device. After resetting it to factory default and turning off the auto-schedule right away, follow the steps below:

  1. On your thermostat, go to Nest Learning Thermostat Settings Reset Schedule.
  2. Go to Settings Nest Sense Auto-Schedule (Turn off Auto-Schedule).

Those steps will help us start fresh and clear out all the schedule and auto-schedule setup on the Nest Thermostat.

But if you have a Nest thermostat, what we recommend is to reset it to factory reset. Follow the steps below:

Remove the Nest Thermostat from your Google Home app.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings, Remove Device, and Remove.

Once done, reset the Nest thermostat to factory reset.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Factory Reset.
  3. Your thermostat will ask you to confirm your choice. Once you've confirmed, your thermostat will take a few moments to reset.

Let us know if this works for everyone.

Best,

Renz
