Nest 2.6 —- Ambient Room Temp Displaying Incorrectly

Coolmenow

Just had a new Trane 3 ton heat pump installed to replace 20 yr old 2 ton Payne system.

The Trane was cooling while the installers were here but after about 2 hours it quit  cooling and the ambient temperature displayed on the Nest is 91 and it never changes —- but room temp is actually 80 as measured by two different thermometers .

The installers are comimg back tomorrow but meanwhile I was wondering why the Nest would display a temp of almost 10 degrees higher.

Never saw the Nest do this before - ambient temp was always pretty much on the money - just curious if anyone has seen this type of thing before? TIA

Hi Coolmenow,

Thanks for reaching out to us, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. I want to check and see if you are still in need of any help or what is the installer's diagnosis of the case. If they have not come yet, let me take a look at this for you.

What type of Nest Thermostat do you have? If you have the Nest Learning Thermostat or the Nest Thermostat E:

  1. Go to Settings > Technical Info > Network.
  2. Check for the Signal strength value.

The signal strength has a maximum value of 100. A Signal strength of 75 is considered strong, while a value of 36 or lower is considered weak. Let us know what the thermostat shows on its screen for its Signal strength value.

If you have the Nest Thermostat 2020:

  1. Connect the thermostat to Wi-Fi.
  • On the display, check for a message or notification about the network.
  • On the top left corner of the Google Home app, tap the button. This will bring up the Add and manage screen.
  • Tap Set up device > New devices.
  • Choose a home if there are multiple existing homes. Once a home is selected, the Google Home app will scan for available devices.
  • From the list of devices, select Thermostat.
  • Scan the QR code in between the battery sockets underneath the thermostat display.
  • On the Let’s set up your Nest Thermostat screen, tap Next.
  • On the legal terms page, tap I agree.
  • There will be a prompt to add other Google Nest devices there any, as well as another prompt to migrate the Nest account if that has not yet been done.
  • From the Installing your thermostat screen, tap Already installed.
  • The Google Home will attempt to connect using Bluetooth. If the connection is successful, the Connecting screen will appear.
  • Choose the network from the list of available networks. Make sure the thermostat and the phone (or tablet) are connected to the same Wi-Fi connection.
  • Upon selecting the network, tap Get password.

Confirm that the thermostat is now able to connect to Wi-Fi and is no longer stuck on the incorrect temperature. If the same thing persists, move to the next step.

  1. Make sure the software version is up-to-date.
  2. Once the thermostat is connected back to Wi-Fi, software updates should happen automatically.
  3. Make sure that the customer is now able to change the temperature after the software update. If the same thing persists, let us know.

Best,

Zoe
