Nest 2nd Gen delta degree AUX control

fconsela

Have a Next 2nd Gen hooked up to a Lennox LRP14DF48 heatpump - aux gas unit (duel fuel). Having issues with heatpump in heating mode and when this happens the delta between Nest temp setting and the actual room temp can be more than 10 degrees difference (yes I know - horrible heatpump operation - defrost/TX valve issues- that's for a different rant). Id like the Nest to command AUX when the temp delta is more than 3 or so degrees but cannot find this option. I can force AUX heat command though the duel fuel set point in the Equipment page - but that will always activate my AUX gas heat function. I want the AUX to come on with a delta temp ant not just past an outside temp limit.

Can the thermostat do this - if so - how to set it up.

Thanks

Hi fconsela,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. I would suggest looking into the Heat Pump Balance feature. If Heat Pump Balance is enabled, you don't have to worry about the lockout temperature. Just choose whether you want more comfort or more savings, and the Nest thermostat will learn to adjust your lockout temperature as needed. You can click on this link to learn more about this.

Thanks,

Edward

How is this feature enabled? I do not see this as an option.

Hello fconsela,

Thanks for getting back to us. Please follow the steps on this page about the heat pump balance settings and let us know if that helps.

Best,

Mark

this is great bro for when you have tue heat pump balance option. I just don’t happen to have that option from my app. Any idea why this isn’t showing up as an option for me?

Hi fconsela,

We're sorry for the trouble this may have caused you. Let's see what's going on and why the Heat Pump Balance option is not showing.

Could you share a photo of your current thermostat's wiring? I'll look forward to your response.

Thanks,
Mark

Cannot Get a picture to load but here is the wiring:

Y1= yellow heat/cool

G= green fan

OB= orange heat pump

W2 AUX = brown alt. Heat

C= BLUE 24V common

Rh= red power

Hey there,

Sorry for the late reply. Do you happen to know what type of system your device is reading? You can check/ change that by following the steps below.

  1. Press the thermostat ring to bring up the Quick View menu.
  2. Select Settings   Equipment. You’ll see all the wires currently connected to your thermostat.
  3. Continue. You’ll see a list of equipment attached to your thermostat.
  4. Choose Heat type, then select the type of heating you have.

Best regards,

Jake

I did see the response but can’t seem to find how to enable heat balance mode. Not seeing any options from the app.
