Nest 2nd Generation heatlink with 3rd generation thermostat

Hello,

I’ve read loads of post about using a 2nd generation heat link and a 3rd generation thermostat, saves having to buy a whole new system.

I appreciate this won’t do hot water, but does it solve the app connectivity issue, after the October change.

Hi  @bixieupnorth, I know you persisted with this, has it worked pls?

Thank you,

Hi,

Yes it's been absolutely fine so far thanks. Hopefully they won't interfere further with this setup, although I do, of course, have the 3rd generation heat link available if they do. But with the added expense of an engineer to install it.

Are you planning on sourcing one? I found it very easy to pair them up, using the code inside the heat link housing.

Cheers

Thank you @bixieupnorth

One plan, I had was to buy a 3rd Gen thermostat from eBay, as there are some for sale without the heatlink.

Thinking this would be cheaper and reduce installation costs.

Thank you,

This is a very simple process to complete, and if you have read all my posts about this topic, you will see all you need is a 3rd Gen display AND Base plate. People say this cannot be done, but I proved this some years ago, and Bixie was probably where you last read the info. When purchasing try Facebook Market place as well, they come up cheap on there sometimes. Make sure the display is FULLY working, you dont want any wifi issue. Where are you located?
