Wanted to share a problem I recently encountered with the Nest learning thermostat 3rd gen base plate. One day my AC stopped working and after investigating, I found a fried relay on my condenser control board, a blown fuse in my furnace control wiring, and a blown component on the PCB of the base plate (PS13216 - there are four surrounding the hole for the wiring and one was blown). The base plate was hot to the touch and smelled like burnt plastic after reinstalling the other two components, which led me to notice the blown component on the PCB. Just wanted to share in case anyone else, now or in the future, has encountered a similar issue. Couldn’t tell you what order the parts failed in for sure, but my guess is that the condenser relay failed, then the nest base, then the furnace fuse. Any other thoughts welcome!
(My Nest was out of warranty by 1 month so already purchased replacement parts)
