Nest 3rd Gen - Aux heat not turning on with heat pump BUT turns on during test

Hello-

Heat pump system with emergency/aux heating strips.  Model: Air Handler model PF4MNP036.  Nest 3rd Gen.

Outside temp is 34 degrees and the max inside temp I can achieve is 70 degrees.

Aux/emergency heat turns on when in test but I do not know if it turns on to support the heat pump.  I was assuming no as the inside temp only reaches 70.

I have tried Test in W1 and W2aux with white wire and the aux heat turns on and heats.  I tried turning off NestSense and setting manual activation of aux at 51 degrees.  Same result.  I have tried setting temp to 10 degrees+ to try turning both on.  Any ideas?  Thanks!!!

Yellow wire -> Y1
Greenish -> G
Orange -> OB
Red -> RH
Brownish -> C
White -> W2aux***

Update:  I traced all wires to air handler and all wiring inside air handler is correct.

@SenorPP

Can you post a picture of the original thermostat's wiring if you have it?

If you don't, can you post a picture of the wiring in the air handler

Hello Patrick - thanks for the response.  This was not a replacement.  The Nest was here when I moved in but never had to use aux heat before as Florida does not typically experience this cold of weather.  As such I do not have a picture of the previous thermostat wiring.  I did actually trace all the wires in the air handler and compared to the install manuals - all good.

I went out and bought a cheap Honeywell thermostat, plugged in the wires and now Aux heat is engaging when it is supposed to.

Nest device was the issue.  Now its a paper weight I guess.

@Patrick_Caezza See above response.  I neglected to add the @ like you requested.
