Hi all,
I realised that my Nest 3rd Gen Thermostat heats my home despite me setting it manually to away mode when I'm out of the house. It appears as if my schedule overrides the away mode settings (and it increases the temperature according to the schedule rather than staying in eco mode).
Is this normal? When googling this, I found conflicting information. Some complained that the schedule didn't override the away mode, others complained that the away mode didn't override the schedule.
In order to be sure that the Nest 3rd Gen Thermostat won't heat my home while I'm out (and wastes energy for no reason), would I have to set it to eco mode rather than away mode?
PS: I don't use any location-based settings. They don't really work as suggested and drain my phone's battery.
Many thanks!

Hi there,
I spoke to a nest installer and he said that apparently its normal that the schedule overrides the eco mode enabled by a manual away setting. So I’ll just use the eco mode instead of away mode now…
I guess that’s correct?

Hi MateyMax88,
Thanks for letting me know about that. That's right. When the thermostat detects that you're away it will prioritize your "eco temperature" since it will help you to save energy. Also, to make sure that the thermostat will follow the manual schedule you can disable your "auto schedule" on the Nest app.
Best,
Jenelyn
