Nest 3rd gen Thermostat Issues with hot water

Alexcm53

Just had a new Nest 3rd gen thermostat installed. Most things seem to work except when the heating mode is set to Off, the hot water cannot be boosted. Also, the Off/On toggle for hot water makes no difference. When it is boosted or set to On via the schedule, the Off switch doesn’t work; it just stays On (orange ).

Sounds like you do not have the HW relay connected. Can you upload a picture of the Heat Link wiring connections?

I hope these pictures help. The only problem I now seem to have is that the Hot Water toggle for On/Off makes no difference. Hot water comes on timed or with boost whether the HW toggle is set to Off or On.

Hi there and thanks for reaching our Community. I'm sorry to hear about this, but I'll do my best to help you out. As @Frustratedddd suggested, it would be best to have a picture of the wiring done on the Heat Link.

Thank you for the pictures. Based on those it seems you have a S plan type system with 2 separate valves for heating and hot water.

To clarify, the On/Off toggle you are referring to. Is it the one you find by selecting the hot water control in the Nest app and tapping on the cogwheel in the upper right corner? You can also take a screenshot of it so we can have a look at it as well.

Yes. The one (On/Off button) you get selecting the Hot Water cogwheel in the Nest app.

Got it. Would it be alright if I send you an email on the address associated to your Community account?

Yes - thanks.

Or…..a Y plan wired incorrectly!
