Nest App Entry Key Not Working

rmeltg
Community Member

I've had this nest thermostat for a few years, but it was recently detached from my Nest app.  I'm looking to reconnect it.

I've searched the forums and have seen a large number of complaints about the App Entry Key not working.  I have factory reset my nest, I have tried entering the Entry Key through the Nest App, and I've even tried entering it through the website nest.com

I always have the same error stating that the Entry Key is not correct.  I've regenerated the Entry Key many times.

The thermostat is running the latest version that it will download 5.9.4-5

My android app is the latest version in the app store from Jun 14, 2023

It sounds like you've already tried some great troubleshooting steps. Here's what I would try next:

  1. Uninstall the Nest app.
  2. Restart your phone by turning it off and on again, then reinstall the Nest app from the app store.
  3. Factory reset the thermostat (not because you've not tried this already but to make sure it's at the setup stage cleanly for this attempt).
  4. Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are both turned on.
  5. On the Nest app home screen, tap the Settings cog.
  6. Tap Add product. The app will switch to a camera view to scan the thermostat’s QR code.
  7. On the thermostat, press it to open the quick view menu and tap the Settings cog.
  8. Turn the ring to select Nest app and press to open it.
  9. Select QR code. Your thermostat will show you a unique QR code to scan with the app. If it doesn't, tap Continue without scanning in the app and select Get entry key on your thermostat instead.
  10. Follow the remaining steps in the Nest app.

Let us know how you get on!

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay. Were you able to try the troubleshooting steps that have been provided above?

Also, you can try to reset your Nest Thermostat Account Connection by going to Settings of your actual device and look for Reset then select Account Connection. After resetting, reconnect your thermostat to your Wi-Fi then try to add it back to your account.

Please let us know how it goes.

I appreciate the help, @David_K.

Best,

Thanks jenelyn.

I have reset the nest as well and it has not made a difference.

I've tried all the steps david mentioned as well with no success.
