Temperature setting will randomly shift one degree (lower in heat mode; higher in cool mode) in various zones in the house. I have nothing in the schedule.

Can't figure how / why app is doing this.

Help??!!

Hi mrhgmc,

Yikes! If you're experiencing random shifts in temperature settings in different zones of your house with your Nest Thermostat. Are you located in North America or Europe? And what type of Nest Thermostat do you have? Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Even if you don't have any schedules set up in the Nest app, it's possible that there are residual or hidden schedules causing the temperature shifts. Open the Nest app and go to the Schedule settings to ensure that there are no hidden schedules or temperature changes programmed. If you find any, delete or modify them accordingly.
  2. If you have additional temperature sensors installed in different zones, ensure that they are placed correctly and not affected by external factors. Make sure they are not exposed to direct sunlight, drafts, or sources of heat that could affect their readings.
  3. Wireless interference can sometimes cause communication issues between the thermostat and the temperature sensors. Check for any potential sources of interference, such as other wireless devices or appliances, and try moving them away from the thermostat and sensors to see if it helps stabilize the temperature readings.
  4. Ensure that your Nest Thermostat and the Nest app are running on the latest firmware and software versions. Updates can sometimes address bugs or compatibility issues that could cause temperature shifts. Check for updates in the Nest app on updating the firmware.
  5. If the temperature shifts persist, you can try performing a reset on the thermostat and reconfiguring it from scratch. This can help eliminate any software glitches or incorrect settings that may be causing the issue.

By checking for hidden schedules, ensuring correct sensor placement, addressing potential interference, updating firmware, and performing a reset if necessary, you can increase the chances of resolving the temperature shifts.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe

Thanks. Software up to date. Schedule is all clear - if there is something "hidden" I don't know where I would find it. I don't believe there are wireless connectivity or interference issues. What is bizarre is that this is occurring in multiple zones in different houses  -with one zone in one house that does not fall prey to this mysterious one degree change.

I am loath to reset for fear of losing other settings that are integral to running - live in northeast US and just installed heat pump. Note this issue pre-dates installation.

Appreciate the response but not sure what's next.

Hi there,

Do you have the Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E? If so, follow these:

  • Go to Settings then look for Eco and select it.
  • Turn off both the Eco Temperature.
  • Click Done.
  • Look for Nest Sense and select it.
  • Select and tap Auto Schedule
  • Select "No" and "Off" then press the ring to select it.
  • Click Done.
  • Look for Reset and select it.
  • Select and tap Schedule.
  • Select Confirm Reset or Clear.
  • Turn the ring to reset schedule.
  • Click OK.

Thanks,

Zoe

Thank you. This is learning t stat. I followed the very clear, crisp instructions you laid out. Unfortunately, the same thing happened again today. All on it's own the t stat, set to heat at 67 degrees, changed to 66 degrees.

I appreciate your help but I am at a loss.

Thanks.
