Nest Constantly Freezing - I'm COLD

NestSucksBad
Community Member

I had my full HVAC system replaced last spring. It came with this expensive nest thermostat that was sold to me as a benefit. I didn’t have any issues when it was on cooling mode but when the season changed and the heat was supposed to kick on, I had many recurring issues. The thermostat will randomly tell me it’s heating the house (heating Stage 2 is always what it says) but it doesn’t turn on the furnace. This happens between three and seven times a week on average. I have spent far more time than is reasonable fiddling with the settings, so now I simply reset the device. Resetting the thermostat only temporarily fixes the problems and that only lasts a few hours to a few days before getting stuck.

I’m extremely tired of having to wake up in the middle of the night freezing my butt off to reset the Nest. From what I’ve read this issue seems to be quite common.

@Markjoseph I can't reply to the original thread I started for this topic. It's quite infuriating that I have to work this hard to get any answers or support from Nest!

To answer lone of your question from the original thread I have tried everything in all Nest guides I can find on the public internet. I'm into this stupid device support for at least 40 hours at this point.

I've attached a photo off the wiring that you asked me to supply.IMG_2254.JPG

Very strange wiring colors they used.

Can you go to the furnace and remove the cover and take pics of the thermostat wires connected to the system terminal screws so we can see how they have it wired up.

Hello folks,

Thanks for helping here, @Houptee.

@NestSucksBad, I'm sorry for the late reply and if the previous threads have been locked due to inactivity, as we occasionally do a bit of housekeeping to keep the conversation in our community fresh and relevant. But we'd love to know more about this.

To isolate: could you please share with us a photo of your previous thermostat, or at least your systems' control board, showing how the wires from your thermostat are connected?

I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Mark

Hi NestSucksBad,

I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Have you had a chance to take a photo of your system's panel? Please let me know if you are still having any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Thanks,

Mark

Sorry for the late response. I had my HVAC company come back and they decided to replace it with a compatible smart device for my HVAC unit. Everything’s been working fine since then.

Hey there,

I am glad to hear you were able to get a HVAC pro to come out, and everything is good to go from here. I am going to go ahead and lock the thread in 24 hours since that is the case. Please let me know if you have any questions from here, as I would be happy to review.

Best regards,

Hi NestSucksBad,

I've duplicated your thread to the main one here. You’ll receive all updates on this issue on the main thread and we recommend updating and checking this thread when needed.

Best regards,

Mark

Same here! I'm freezing! Nest is telling me I'm away. I'm home and freezing!! I hate nest also! Can't find help either!

Hello Frozeninwinter,

I appreciate you posting on this thread, and I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with the Home and Away Assist. Let's see what's going on.

Please disable or turn off the Home and Away Assist on your actual thermostat settings. If you have the Nest Thermostat 2020 model, check the routines and remove the thermostat action if there is one. Also, clearing the schedule temperature might help so it won't randomly change the temperature.

Let me know if that helps.

Regards,

Mark

Got it fixed. Called my HVAC company that just installed my new house system. They took out the nest and put in the reliable Honeywell thermostat with the Up Down temp buttons and the AC/Heat buttons. I now have heat. All better. One happy person. Google will never enter my house again.

Hi Frozeninwinter,

We deeply appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experiences, and we'll take it as feedback. We hope we can change your mind in the future.

If there’s anything else I can help you with, please let me know. Otherwise, this thread will be locked in 24 hours.

Thanks,

Mark
