Nest E install help

Jacobro

Hi, just got a Nest Thermostat E to replace our American Standard non-smart thermostat.

I pulled the cover off and see the wires, entered them into the compatibility checker and it says not compatible, but I think it actually is.

- I have X2 (emergency heat) connected to W2 via a straight wire.

- RC connected to R via what looks like a "paper clip style" prong.

What do I need to change in my compatibility checker to make this work? I believe the confusion lies with one or both of the two above things.

Here is an image of my wires.

Thank you for posting in the community! I understand that you replaced your American Standard non-smart thermostat with the Nest Thermostat E, and you're wondering why the compatibility checker says it is not compatible, although you think it is. No worries, I'm happy to help with this!

I appreciate you taking the time to check the wiring compatibility and for sharing the previous thermostat wiring picture and both the X2 and RC connection details.

Please consider that Nest thermostats don’t use jumper wires, but if the current thermostat has a jumper wire, the system may still be Nest compatible. However, do not enter a jumper wire into the compatibility checker or the Nest app or Google Home app to get a wiring diagram, and don't connect it to the Nest thermostat.

Also, consider that the S, S1, or S2 terminals are not applicable. The Nest thermostat does not need these wires. Install the Nest thermostat without these wires. To learn more, refer to this article: Identify a thermostat wire.

In order to evaluate compatibility, I need to confirm the make and model of your HVAC system.

I look forward to your reply. Any additional concerns, feel free to ask.

Regards,

Humberto.
