Nest Humidity Reading Incorrect

lizzykravitz
Community Member

Has anyone had any issues with the Nest Thermostat showing incorrect humidity values? Mine is constantly saying its around 65-70% RH but I bought a humidity monitor and its reading under 10% RH below what the Nest says. I've tried restarting and resetting the nest to factory settings but I still have this issue.

I am having the exact same issue. best showing RH 65-70% , so I bought two independent RH meters which both show 55% when testing throughout the home.  I wonder if it’s an update software glitch as I don’t recall Nest showing questionalbale levels previously.

I have the same issue have you gotten it resolved?

Sadly no.

We’re having the same problem. Our Nest always showed accurate humidity, now it reads 16% too high.  Tried restarting it, still wrong. Software bug?

Same issue here. My thermostats are reading 60-65% but my independent RH monitor reads around 50%.

My Nest thermostat reads humidity at zero while my both the weather app and humidity indicator read much higher.

The problem is only getting worse. Today my nest reads 97% humidity The other four sensors in my house read 45%. it was spot on all winter long. This is completely unacceptable.

My Nest Pro temperature sensor has consistently read 20-25% higher than (1)  my old humidistat that the Nest Pro replaced & (2) my other 2 reliable humidity sensors since I installed it last summer.  Those 3 have read within 3% of each other for years! Caulking the hole the control wires go through made 0 difference. Is is possible to re-calibrate Nest Pro sensor somehow?

Yes, this is a issue for me. My house is 50-52% and reading 78-83%.
used a humidistat next to it and says 52%.

I think this is a sensor issue. Please help.

Good luck! No Amazon rep has EVER responded to me! I don’t think they care unless their bottom line goes up!

Hi Jake, the Nest reported humidity still reads  a consistent 8-10points higher than several other hygrometers throughout the house. The independent hygrometers are all very consistent with each other.

I am having same issue as well.  Humidity is sometimes off by 6-8%.

I am having same issue of humidity reading on thermostat constantly above 60, right now 65 when it is not that high in the house. When will this be fixed??

It seems that no one is going to answer our problem? I’m having the same issue and it’s stressing me out as I’ve already had issues with my hvac retaining too much humidity and cause rust and mold in the unit itself. Is there any one I can contact to fix this issue??

I have given up on Google doing the right thing. I purchased a (2) pack of stand-alone thermometers with humidity sensors for less than $10 on Amazon. I keep one on each end of the house to keep an eye on humidity. Both devices measure significantly lower than the Nest and both are usually in agreement with each other so I trust them.

It is sad we cannot get any clarification as to why the thermostat is reading high.

Having the same issue. Nest says constantly 60-70 percent humidity and I've bought separate acurite sensors and both say 44%. Seems I'm not the only one by reading this.

Same problem here. Two separate humidity sensors confirm humidity in home at 31% with Nest saying 40%. Reset didn’t fix the problem. Any help?

Same problem here. Nest is reading about 10% more by than actual

Yes, mine reads 10-15% high for humidity. Anybody find any solutions?

same issue here - was perfect spot on for months until today and now it WAY higher than all of the other humidity readings in my house. I also tried the reset and no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Exactly same issue from yesterday ramps to 65%. I hold screen to reset device and now instant 70%. I use other device and shown 53%. 70% at 23 C should makes my carpet humid, but everything its bone dry. Come one Google. Justified your product

91% vs. 47%91% vs. 47%I have the same issue.  We just got a Nest installed with a new HVAC and natural gas furnace on April 14th.  The humidity reported agreed with 2 other humidstats I previously owned plus the dehumidifier in our basement.  Starting about the time this software upgraded (May 3rd) the humidity reports are way too high.  See the photo but basically it is high 40%.  Something is clearly wrong with this software version.  Google/Nest, can you please comment?

I ended up opening a support case with Google via this URL last weekend:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

After working via a chat session for nearly 2 hours the support technician offered I could return the thermostat to the store for an exchange or open a warranty claim with Google.  I opened a claim and have since received and installed my replacement.  It has been showing humidity readings consistent with my humidistat and has upgraded itself to the latest software version (6.2-27).  Once I return the defective unit and Google refunds the replacement cost (they hold the amount on your credit card) I hopefully will be finished with this issue.  In any case, my problem appears to be a hardware failure on a thermostat that was installed just less than 2 months ago.

You're a good human being for sharing this thank you.  You went through a whole lot of effort and trouble to get this resolved,  Thank you for following through and sharing with this community.

Perhaps there are a number of defective units out there. Mine seemed to have been working fine, and the all of a sudden it didn't. Good to know that a replacement solved it. I may do the same. Thanks for sharing.

OK this is ridiculous- it now reads 100% and my dehumidifier in the same room says 55% (as well as 2 independent monitors) - it is definitely NOT 100% humidity.  Isn't there anyone from Google who has enough shame to stand up and take care of this?

Mine reads 20-25% high! How can I recalibrate this so I can properly control my humidifier? Is there a Google Nest technical person reading this?

Mine says 100% humidity so perhaps I can re-calibrate it by flushing it down the toilet?

(this whole MVP approach to software kills me. minimum viable product my arse)

It's possible to restart or factory reset it. I tried both of these things and the humidity kept reading high. I don't know about recalibration though.

I quite! My Nest was out or warranty before Last winter came so I never noticed my calibration issue. When I set my Nest humidity set-point to 70% (highest possible) my house humidifier ran when actual humidity got below 47-53%. Not as high as I’d like, but tolerable! So, I guess I’ll just live with it! No more comments from me!

Not quite the solution I was hoping for!!!

I discovered that the hole in the wall where the thermostat wires came out was letting attic humidity effect my thermostat humidity readings. I sealed the hole with silicone and the readings corrected.

AGhost

That's a good idea. I have fire foam on one side of the hole (near the furnace) but maybe sealing the hole behind the thermostat would help. I also suspect it is a software issue.

  • Same here 10% higher. Big pain reset to factory does not help

MDO

I’m having a similar issue.  Mine is about 10% above what the actual humidity is in the house.  It seemed accurate this winter.
