Nest Learning 3rd gen low power after installation

Just installed my nest learning 3rd gen thermostat. It works fine with switching on heat and air. I’m still getting low battery when I go to “Nest App” on the thermostat. My battery is at 3.75 right now and fluctuating. I installed it about 2 hours ago and it’s still not at the 3.8 threshold. Is it just a waiting game? Do I need to charge it via micro-usb to get it going? Do I need to worry about the long-term power supply to the thermostat?

thanks in advance

Hello Kevinlkoelsch,

Congrats on your new Nest Learning 3rd Gen thermostat! The initial low battery reading might be due to the setup and configuration process. It's common for the battery level to fluctuate during the first few hours. Give it some time to stabilize; it should reach the threshold soon.

Charging via micro-USB is an option if needed, but it's usually not necessary for regular operation. If the issue persists, check the power readings in the Technical Info settings. The power readouts help us determine any possible power-related issues and inspect for any wiring reports that could tell us about any suspected wiring issues. But in the long term, Nest Thermostats are designed to be powered by your HVAC system, so battery concerns should be minimal once the initial setup phase is complete.

Best regards,
Mark
