Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd Generation Battery not Charging

I’ve seen this topic posted, but closed, so I’m posting for more current help..

I have a Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Generation) which suddenly went offline, saying there isn’t adequate battery to connect to WiFi. When I scrolled through the dial, several other features were also disabled because of not having enough battery.

I have removed my Thermostat from the wall, checked my wiring and plug, and everything is fine, so I have no idea why my battery is now having issues or what to do about it after completing my triage (I have a technical background so I went through all of the online information, tried everything which was recommended, and it’s been offline for more than two hours after I replaced it back onto the base and the data said if the battery was dead, it might take that long to fully recharge, but it hasn’t). It has power, and our HVAC provider serviced our unit a couple of weeks ago so the filters were changed and unit was cleaned, but the battery is not charging, I need next steps…

One of the reasons we got this Thermostat was to be able to adjust it from an app, and if that’s not available, I’m not sure why I shouldn’t throw it out and get one from another manufacturer which will allow us to do so.

Quick update - my Thermostat’s battery must have recharged last night after we went to bed, because this morning, everything was back to normal. It was offline for 4 or 5 hours before I went to bed, and I made no additional changes, so I have no idea what corrected the problem other than a possible software upgrade being downloaded, which couldn’t happen as it was offline, or it just took longer than the documentation says to recharge the batteries, which makes no sense…
