Hello!
Recently had a thunderstorm in the area where we lost internet connection at our house, didn’t notice a power outage, but lightning struck close. After this happened our Nest learning thermostat gen 3 turned off and didn’t comeback on around 1 in the morning. Woke up and the thermostat was indicating a temperature of 86 in the house and yes it was hot, but the cooling was set to 71. HVAC technician came by and cleaned and checked our unit and noticed that the thermostat was not sending an O signal. The thermostat would have the unit come on for a minute then turnoff. Only way he could get AC to turn on was by jumping the heat pump wiring to the AC, so now I have no heat, but the AC unit was working. Set at 68 and 68 coming out of the vents. Awesome.
A day later, the unit was running for 23 hours straight. The Nest indicating 86 degrees but 68 blowing out of vents all night. Temperature never dropped according to the thermostat. I turned the unit off to help save energy and hope to not kill it and the nest is now indicating that the temperature dropped in the house to 71 but it feels hotter. Turn the AC unit back on and the temperature according to the thermostat is higher but it feels cooler in the house. So now I am stuck manually turning unit off and on to help save energy and money.

Yes, I reset my wifi modem and router and reset the thermostat with no luck.

If you had a power outage and a nearby lightning strike, it could have damaged the Nest.
Try swapping the OB and the G wire at the thermostat, and then turn the Fan on. Does the A/C turn on and work?
Try calling for cooling. Does the fan turn on?

I have no issues with calling for A/C and getting cold air. The issue is that my thermostat is showing the house to be 80 degrees when it isn’t and the A/C blowing cold constantly, all day because the thermostat temperature is off. Mind you, I had no issues before this thunderstorm everything worked just fine. I actually went ahead and installed a new unit just now, and it’s showing the same thing. House is showing 81 when it isn’t and the A/C is set at 70.

If you installed a new unit, then the problem isn't the unit. You either have a wiring problem or a problem with the system
