Just bought a nest learning thermostat. Went through the compatibility check and it said it would work. Installed to instruction, created account and went through the setup...I ran the recommended 'test' of cooling, heating and fan and all 3 felt good (in hindsight maybe I didn't realize it wasn't cooling on cool, but I am almost positive the air coming out of the vents was in fact cool).
Not sure if this was the trigger, but issues started after I switched the system from cool mode to heat-cool mode. Ambient temp outside is hot so I needed the system to cool. After a few minutes I realized that the air coming out of the vents was no longer cold but warm. The condenser unit outside was still running, but when I put my ear to the freon line near the air handler I realized it was no longer pulling any in. All the time the nest thermostat is acting like nothing is wrong, telling me that it is actively cooling as the 'time to reach desired temp' keeps on going up since it's blowing warm air.
Obviously I tried turning it back from heat-cool mode to just cool mode, reset settings, turned off thermostat and the HVAC power breaker then turned back on a few times. No change - nest thermostat says it's cooling in cool mode as it pulls no freon and blows warm air even as the condenser runs.
I removed the nest thermostat and threw my cheap Honeywell thermostat back on and everything works fine again. Probably just sending this thing right back to Amazon but figured I'd check and see if there are any solutions that don't involve me buying more Google products.
I have a single fuel heat pump system with aux heat from electric strips.

Hi Ebull21,
Thanks for posting here in the Community forum, and I'm sorry for the delayed response. Let me take a look at this for you.
A few questions: what is the make and model of your HVAC system, cooling and heating system, including the make and model for the fan-coil or air-handler units? Is your HVAC system using a multi-speed or variable speed fan? Do you see a power error code on your thermostat? Also, can you send a photo of your old thermostat wiring configuration and on how you connected the wires to the Nest Learning Thermostat?
I’ll look forward to your response.
Best,
Zoe
