Nest Learning Thermostat not working after 1st time install

saran

I had an old thermostat with following wiring - 5 wires.

  • Y, G, W, Rc, Rh
  • Rc/Rh are connected via jumper wire.

I installed Nest and I connected the above wires accordingly, except the Rc/Rh jumper wire - Nest documentation says not to connect Rc & Rh as there is an internal jumper.

But after install, it shows the following error in wiring report -

"Power wire Rh detected. No connection to equipment. Learn more at nest.com/n72".

Heater and fan are not turning on and when I turn on AC, just fan seems to turn on !!!!

Can some one please help me on how to fix this issue.

Thanks.

Hi @saran,

Thanks for reaching out to the community about your Nest Thermostat Learning. I understand how important it is for your thermostat to function properly.

Wiring issues can sometimes be tricky, but let's see if we can get things working again. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Important Safety Note: Before you begin, ensure you turn off the power to your Nest Thermostat system at the breaker box, fuse box, or system switch. This will prevent potential damage to your system and keep you safe.

  1. Turn off power to your system at the breaker box, fuse box, or system switch. This helps prevent damage to your system and keeps you safe.
  2. Pull off the thermostat display.
  3. Check that all connectors with wires are down as pictured.
If they aren't, re-insert the wires. Press the connector button down and insert the wire as far as it will go. If the wire is in correctly, the button will stay down when you let it go.
You may need to strip the wire ends. There should be ⅓ to ½ inch of straight copper wire exposed.
  4. Press the display onto the base until it clicks into place and turns your system power back on.

If you still see the code on your thermostat but your system is running normally, you can dismiss the message and continue to use your thermostat. The message shouldn't pop up again after you dismiss it; however, you may want to contact a pro to take a look at your system.

If you’ve completed all the troubleshooting steps above and your thermostat still isn’t working correctly, contact a local professional for more help.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if these steps help resolve the issue.

Best,

Jorge.
