Nest Senson Not Connecting

SteveV1
Community Member

Hi,

I have a Nest Learning Thermostat, 3rd Generation and a Nest Temperature Sensor, purchased in November. The thermostat was installed by our HVAC tech in early January.  The following week, I started to install the Temperature Sensor. Using the Nest App, I added the sensor, scanned the QR code and started the process to connect the sensor. After a few attempts, the sensor was not detected by the thermostat.

Studying some of the solutions, I removed the sensor from the Nest app and removed the battery from the sensor.  After about 10 minutes, I reinserted the battery, added the sensor to the app, scanned the QR code and attempted to connect to the thermostat. After a few attempts, I was still not able to connect to the thermostat. I'm at a loss as to the next steps.BTW, on a the attempts to connect to the thermostat, the sensor was 5 feet away. When it's finally installed, it will be about 12 feet from the thermostat.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for the information, the house is a vacation place, so we are not there on a permanent basis. A two story home, with the thermostat on the ground floor and the main living area upstairs. Add to that, southern exposure, making the temperature differential 5-7 degrees. Hence, the sensor seemed like the best solution.

Currently, the sensor is paired correctly and all is well. We were there two weeks ago, ready to restart the Nest, which seemed like a good fix. Only problem, the power was out and didn't come back on until after we left. Next week arrives, power is on, ready to restart the Nest and attempt again. I put the battery in the sensor, went through the pairing wizard and presto, it paired right away.  I think the power outage caused the Nest to restart and when I paired the sensor, it worked correctly.

Thanks for the assistance.

Did you ever get this figured out? I have the same problem.

Nope, still waiting on an answer.

I was actually able to fix the issue by doing a restart on the nest itself. Once it did a restart (not a factor reset) it connected seamlessly.

Press your thermostat ring to open the Quick View menu.

Choose Settings Nest settings icon.

Turn the ring to Reset and press to select.

Choose the restart option...after it reboots you should be able to add the sensors.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for being here in the Google Nest Community.

Thanks for the help, LanceNest. The restart option on your thermostat is a great solution. This will refresh the Bluetooth connections between the thermostat and the Nest Temperature Sensors.

Let us know how it goes by replying to this thread.

Best regards,

Ryan
