Nest Settings and data lost after Wi-Fi (wifi) update / factory reset

So after changing my wifi router my nest thermostat could only be reconnected by factory resetting... at least thats the only fix I found. When I got it back up and going, all my settings prior,  and data to boot that was in my app got deleted in the process 🙃. It's a really big bummer, as my routine and temp settings were just perfect, and dialed in, and my data was beginning to show me trends and give me quite a few leafs 🍃. I really wish there was a way to retrieve that old data and keep my old settings everytime I have to migrate to a new wifi. Does anyone have a fix? And if not, anyone who is thinking about changing your wireless router. Know you will lose all settings and data, so make sure to jot down all the information you want or need prior to your factory reset, or you will be SoL.

Hopefully this helps someone else get their needed settings before making this mistake like I did. 🥴 Have a good day!

Hey aT_dG,

Thanks for posting and for sharing what you've done to have your thermostat connected to your new WiFi network although you had to go through re-creating everything like your schedules. Rest assured that we're always on the lookout for ways to improve so we'll take this as feedback.

Stay tuned for news and updates.

We also had a similar experience. We had to set up a new Wi-Fi network and had to perform the entire Nest setup process again. I wish there was as way to somehow just give the device the new network name and establish a new connection without having to completely set everything up again.

Also, it is really unfortunate that it seems we have lost historical data from the operations on the old network. Why do we lose data just by changing networks? These areas have many opportunities for improvement.

Ed,

Yes help making Nest more economically functional would be appreciated, thank you, there is a lack of functionality when you need to connect your nest to a new wifi. It's a really bad feature if you want to upgrade your wifi but not your Thermostat. It basically pushes or bullies consumers to upgrade nest if they are not tech savvy, and are willing to take time out to do a factory reset, and take the time to set it up again. I suppose this is googles intent with having the lack of functionality though. This has historically been an item that lasts consumers 20yrs+, not a tech generation (1-2yrs).
