Hi all,
I have two 3rd gen Nest thermostats in an older house where the t-stat locations are not optimal for motion detection on the t-stat itself. Accordingly, if no one walks past the t-stat for a while, the heat/AC will shut off. I would like to know if the Nest temperature sensors can link to the t-stats and act as motion detectors in the areas of the home where there is constant movement. Moving the t-stats is not an option. Thanks for your input. Rob C 😉

Hello @RobbieRob,
Thank you so much for posting in this community. I understand you have two Nest Learning Thermostats (3rd gen) and would like to know whether the Nest Temperature Sensors linked to the thermostats have a motion detection feature, because you want to activate the heat and AC in areas of your home with constant movement. I’m here to share more information.
The Nest Temperature Sensors are designed solely to monitor and report the temperature in a specific room back to the main Nest Thermostat. They do not have any motion detection capability built into them; their purpose is only to help the thermostat maintain a comfortable temperature in a location other than where the thermostat is installed.
To review more information about this device, refer to the following article: Learn about the Nest Temperature Sensor.
If you have more questions, please feel free to write in this thread.
