Nest Temperature Sensor not compatible with IFTTT?

Therobboreht
Community Member

I bought a nest temperature sensor to go along with my nest learning thermostat. Installed and connected the sensor to the thermostat just fine.

Google claims it's compatible with IFTTT, but in my nest account when connecting nest to IFTTT, only my thermostat shows up (I have migrated my account like I was supposed to - that is not the issue).

In the nest app, both the thermostat and the sensor show up. In IFTTT, only the thermostat shows up.

I need the sensor's temp to trigger a smart plug. Having the thermostat be the only thing that can connect to IFTTT is useless to me.

I need to use the temperature sensor to trigger a smart plug in that room, but IFTTT can't find my sensor, only my thermostat.

I have been working on this for hours and am now regretting ever thinking about getting a nest thermostat.

Hello Therobboreht,

I'm sorry for the delay. I know it has been a while, but I wanted to ensure that everything was covered here.

We appreciate your request for this additional feature, but the Nest Temperature Sensor only works with the Nest app. Rest assured that our team is working non-stop with different partners to bring the best features to the Google Nest devices for home automation. Also, please let our product team know about it by sending feedback.

If there’s anything else I can help you with, please let me know. Otherwise, this thread will be locked within 24 hours.

Thanks,

Mark

I've already transferred to another company's product, as waiting an entire month for an answer on this was not feasible, and I already discovered through my own research that Google does not make temperature sensor device IDs discoverable.

Switchbot provides a cheaper, more informational, and more useful product that actually allows me to regulate my daughter's room temperature as needed.

What is most disappointing is Google's extremely unfair and deceptive marketing around this. This has cost me unnecessary money, and I have temperature sensor which is of no use at all. Google advertises compatibility with IFTTT, but the compatibility is only partial, and that is only evident after Google's customers make their purchase.

Hi there,

We hear you, Therobboreht. I totally understand your insights about how the Nest Temperature Sensor can work with 3rd party services for home automation. The temperature sensor is still fairly new to the market, and we'll take this as feedback. Please be assured that our team is working non-stop with different partners to bring the best features to the Google Nest devices.

Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns, as this thread will be locked within 24 hours.

Regards,

Mark
