Nest Themostat Gen 3 screen blank and flashing green light

I have two HVAC systems with two Nest thermostats which have worked great for a few years.  One of them went off line and the screen is blank and has a blinking green light.  I tried charging with the thermostat with a cable and performed a restart and reset and the same problem exists.  When I connect the 2nd thermostat to the base of the 1st thermostat with the problem, the system works fine.  I think the inoperative thermostat is locked in an update cycle that I am unable to fix.

Hi Darent,

Thanks for reaching out and for being a step ahead of us. Please verify that your Nest Thermostat mounts (can get detected by a computer if it’s connected via a micro-USB cable).

  1. If the Nest drive doesn’t mount, restart the thermostat and the computer.
  2. If the Nest drive still doesn’t mount, connect another USB device to the computer via the cable to check if it detects and/or installs the USB device.
  3. If the computer doesn’t detect the USB device, use a different USB cable, USB port, or computer.
  4. If the computer detects the USB device, manually eject the USB device, and then replug the display into the computer. (Make sure that the light indicator doesn't change to red.)

If the Nest drive mounts:

  • Find and open the folder or icon "" for the Nest device that should show on the computer screen.
  • Verify that the technicalinfo.PLIST file is visible.

Best,

Jenelyn
