Hi! I just installed my Nest Thermostat 3rd Gen, which I purchased in the Netherlands. It’s currently running software version 5.9.5-2 from 2021 and there seems to be no way to update it to a newer version, specifically 6.4-5, which was released just a month ago.
This update feels pretty crucial since it moves all functionality from the Nest app to the Google Home app. With Google slowly but surely deprecating the Nest app, the thermostat might become useless in a few years (or maybe even months).
I contacted Google support and their only solution was to return the thermostat and buy another one, which, well, isn’t really an option for me since I’m no longer in the Netherlands.
My question is: Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Are your 3rd Gen thermostats updating normally, or are they stuck on older firmware too?

Same here. I also have the one with Heat Link, but that shouldn’t be an issue. According to the support page, this particular update is meant for EU Thermostats, and all EU Thermostats come with Heat Link.
Anyway, the issue resolved itself. Yesterday, in the middle of the day, I got the update automatically without forcing it. So it’s definitely just a slow rollout, and we should all get the update eventually.
What shocks me even more is that their support representative tried to make me return my device and didn’t even know the update was being pushed in batches.

I have the same problem you’re describing. I have the version that comes with Heat Link, and I think that has something to do with it.
