Nest Thermostat 4 generation not connecting to Google home app after set up

My thermostat doesn’t show on the Google home app after set up. I tried all troubleshooting and everything. 3 days ago I sat them and everything was fine but today they are all gone. I factory reset the thermostats, I deleted the Google home app and reinstalled it, I checked WiFi and still nothing is showing on my app. Please help. Thank you

I'm having the same issue. I set up a new thermostat 2 days ago and it was showing fine on the app. Today when I go into Google home app it's no longer there but it shows a generic "nest thermostat" under my devices. When I go into it just shows basic temp info but when I try to go into the settings it says not connected and it will not connect. Very strange..

I’m having the same issue. Did you have find a resolution to this yet?

I read in another post that it seems to be an issue with the Google home app when they updated it a few days ago. Looks like they're working to get it fixed with an update to the app.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear your Nest Thermostat isn't showing the settings options in the Google Home app. I'd be glad to share more details with you.

We're aware of an issue with accessing thermostat controls in the Google Home app. We will share an update as soon as possible, and we appreciate your patience.

Feel free to keep us posted if you have more questions.

Best regards,

Gabriela

Is there any way you can keep us up-to-date about the issue? I've got a 30 day return that is up on 8/5/25 so I need to make a decision whether to keep it or not. If it's not working on the app I don't want to deal with it.

I’m having the same issue. Is there a resolution coming via update or is it a defect on the physical device?

I got an email that I am among those affected by an app issue they are having and the engineers are working on it. I tried to look up the issue anywhere in the web and I couldn’t find any communication about it which is surprising. Let’s see if any solution would come up in the next few days!!!!

I was having the same problem and it just started working again.

DoubleK did you do anything different?

Opened Home App and saw that I could remove the thermostat.  I did that and then removed account from device.  Then set it back up again and can control it from the Home app now.

I am having the exact same problem and still cannot remove or control my new 4th gen thermostat

I got an email saying it is an issue with the app and the engineers are working to solve it with no timetable given. It sucks it is taking this much time to fix. Nest app was the best and better interface than the Google Home.

Same thing happened to me. I've done literally everything possible to correct it. I even signed into an entirely new Google account. The thermostat says it's connected to the WIFI and to my account but is still not showing in the app. It's like it's some ghost device or something. It's got the device listed in the location in my home I listed but is not controllable at all. I can't even choose to removed the device from the app. I"m going to have to pay for the AC company to come out and re-install a new device if this doesn't start working so it's infuriating it's taking so long. Google should pay me for the money I"m going to spend for a new install. What a waste of money and time. I've got until Aug 5th to return this device or then I'm stuck with it AND another install fee.

I am on the same boat. I need to return my item if this issues is not resolved so my deadline is coming up. I can’t believe Google is struggling to resolve such an issue and it’s taking them this much time. The worst part there is no timetable and that’s what I am upset about. Such a horrible experience so far!!!

Yesterday the app let me remove the thermostat. Then I went to the thermostat itself and did a factory reset. I was able to set it up again afterwards and it's now working as usual.

I actually signed in with an entirely new account which automatically removed the "ghost" thermostat. I set everything up again fresh, and still have the same issue. The Nest Thermostat showing in the app is still not functioning from the app, nor can I remove it.

Update:

Factory resets, trying to set it up from a different home, etc. still do not work. Spoke with them on the phone, still no fix and they still have no timeline for when there will be a fix. They insisted they cannot issue a replacement because the issue will persist with a new device but that holds zero water given the other two thermostats I purchased work just fine. So I was a persistent **bleep** & finally got them to send me a new device. Will see if that device ends up working or not, seems totally random.

Final update:

The new device they sent me is working perfectly fine. The issue is clearly and obviously tied to the device to some extent. They gave me some pushback at first when I asked for a replacement but eventually caved. I would encourage all of you having the same issue to aggressively push for a replacement device.

Glad to hear that worked! Did you get the newest one from Amazon? I'm scared to buy my replacement from the same place.

I spoke with Nest Customer Service again today and they still have no resolution, offer no time frame for fixing it and refuse to send out a replacement until. They continue to claim it is a known issue with both the Google Home and Nest apps. No help beyond that.

Amazing.

I honestly feel they have produced faulty thermostat batches and they don’t want to admit it. It seems everyone who changed the thermostat it worked out for them and they do t want to replace them. If it was about the app, the issue would have been fixed a while ago. Google has enough brains to tackle any coding or technical issue in no time. It is ridiculous not to admit it by Google!!!

For those asking, I google themselves to send me a replacement even though I purchased from Amazon and was still in the 30-day replacement window. You need to be an unrelenting **bleep** & bully them into sending you a replacement. Sprinkle in phrases such as “breach of contract” when referring to the product warranty, etc. Worked for me after some persistence.

Update to all: as of yesterday, my thermostat re-appeared in the Nest app and I can control it, schedule it, and all is working.

The only resolution for me was to just finally purchase a new Nest which I did and now it's working,
