Nest Thermostat Base Not Powering

Bbascue

Hey all,

I've owned my thermostat for about 3 years, and now have an issue rendering it unusable.

The thermostat can be charged when I remove the base and plug the charging cable into the thermostat directly. However, it can't be operated in this configuration, and requests that it is placed in the base.

When connected to the base, the thermostat will power on, but the base does not charge the unit. The little LED flashes, suggesting it is getting power.

The thermostat will then display one of two messages.

  1. Your thermostat is restarting. back in a bit
  2. Your thermostat needs to shut down in order to save battery power

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Hi @Bbascue,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing detailed information. I understand you are encountering some issues when you connect the base, the Nest Thermostat powers on, but the base does not charge, and a small LED flashes, and it cannot be operated in this configuration. I'm here to help you find a solution together.

To assist you further, please attempt the following questions:

  • When did the issue first occur?
  • If the thermostat was recently installed, what is the make and model of your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment?
  • What is the color of the LED light?
  • Are the power breakers on, and do you receive power to your home?
  • Is the thermostat's display seated properly?
  • How long have you left your Nest thermostat charged?
  • Are the power breakers on, and do you receive power to your home?
  • Are all the wires of your thermostat seated firmly in its terminals (with no loose or exposed wires)?

In the meantime, you can do this basic troubleshooting.

  • Press the thermostat ring until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds), then let go of the ring. The thermostat screen turns on as it boots up.

Please keep me posted and let me know how it goes.

Warm regards,

Jeremy.
