Our Nest system has worked well for 5 years but after unplugging the thermostat for 3 weeks (it’s freestanding with a plug, not wall mounted) it now seems dead. It has been plugged in for 30’mins and dead as a dodo - nothing displayed on the screen at all. Any ideas very welcome!

It sounds like the internal battery in your Nest may have completely drained while it was unplugged for those few weeks, and now it’s struggling to wake up. Normally, leaving it plugged in for a while should bring it back to life, but if it’s showing no signs of power at all after minutes, the battery may be too far gone to recharge. Sometimes leaving it on the charger overnight can help, but if it stays completely unresponsive, it likely means the internal battery has failed and the unit may need a battery replacement or a new thermostat altogether.
