After getting really no -where with the support people . . . one suggestion was to try reviewing similar issues on the community message board.
Read a few and decided to follow the suggestion of DELETING the Thermostat from the HOME APP and taking the step to ADD a device/app to the wall unit. RIGHT NOW it is working . . . I'll check back in tomorrow and in the next few days to post the current status.

I did that this morning when I found that thermostat had lost Wi-Fi. I deleted the nest thermostat from the home app and Now I can not get it back into the home app. When I try to add it back into the home app, it does not detect the nest thermostat. Can you help me to reconnect it back to the home app?

Well, after 12 hours, I noticed that it went OFFLINE for 15 minutes within 30 minutes of leaving the area of the wall unit last night. This morning to my surprise, it was ONLINE and I was able to program it a command. The experiment continues. The main reason for my surprise was because in the past, when it read OFFLINE the only way to get it back online was to be near the wall unit and cycle through the settings on the devices.
So, I do believe I am heading in the right direction to resolve this issue.
Today I am going to check the furnace and make sure all the wired connections are tight. Check in tomorrow to see what the developments are after 24 hours.
I read somewhere that when resetting the phone home APP and the wall unit you should start with the wall unit first as if you were installing the unit right out of the box. Good luck.

My aoo is longer offline (keeps going off and on randomly) however I cannot control temp from the app, the app is showing the current temp but screen remains grey if I turn the dial up. Working fine on the unit on the wall. Just started doing this after a few years of no problems

after several days, the experiment has failed. The thermostat continues to function correctly but the home app on my phone continues to tell me that it’s off-line sending a plea to anyone who has this issue

I came across something on YouTube that makes a lot of sense as to why the Nest is going offline. I currently have a second router so I am using a different network to access the NEST. Since I made this connection (12 hours) my NEST has NOT gone OFFLINE. This router is an older model NETGEAR and does not have any FIREWALLS or VPN which I now believe could be the problem why the NEST goes OFFLINE. The NEST is trying to connect but the NEWER ROUTER has a firewall or VPN, which stops it from getting ONLINE. YouTube suggested accessing ROUTER and changing some settings to allow NEST to connect to the WiFi. Makes a lot of sense and I hope this helps others in distress. Keeping my fingers crossed that these troubleshooting steps resolve my NEST OFFLINE issues. I'll check back in a few days and update my progress.

24 hours since I signed into a new wifi network with no Firewalls or VPN and the APP has been up and running the whole time. Tonight and tomorrow is other days . . . I'll report back then.

Over 70+ hours since making the switch to a wifi router with no Firewall or VPN and the APP has worked with NO INTERUPTIONS.
