Nest Thermostat Router Connection

I have a Nest thermostat in my vacation home in Montana. Occasionally (every three months or so) it loses connectivity with the router. Not being able access it with the US/Canadian border closure a neighbor goes over and reboots the router and all is well. My question is if I don't notice the router isn't functioning for an extended period is the thermostat still controlling the furnace at the last temperature setting? I suspect it is, but I'm not techy enough to be comfortable assuming it is. Thanks

Yes your nest thermostat will continue to operate with the exception of remote access when it's not connected by Wi-Fi.  Saying this your router shouldn't need to be rebooted that frequently in order to re-establish connection.  Do you have any other smart home devices that can be accessed remotely such as a camera?  I'm curious to know if this is only the nest with the issue or if there is something more going on with your wireless.

Thank you for the response. The thermostat is the only device. Initially I wasn't sure if it was the modem and/or the router causing the problem. I am able to check the router remotely and it was OK. To be sure I rebooted it remotely and it came back OK. My phone there is also through the modem and I was able to call and get my greeting. So I suspect it is the router. When the border opens and I can get there I'm wondering if I shouldn't replace the router. Perhaps the NetGear Nighthawk, which I think may have remote access. I will have to do some more research on this. Thanks
