We recently purchased a Nest Thermostat.
Our old thermostat, which controls heat only and is 24V, has a red wire going to RH, then a jumper (don't know why) to RC, and a white wire going to W.
Since the Nest only has a spot for R, can we disregard the jumper and just connect to R and W?

Hello DominickV,
Thank you for taking the time in letting us know about your inquiry. I'd love to help.
Nest thermostats don’t use jumper wires, but if your current thermostat has a jumper wire, your system may still be Nest compatible and you no longer need to use it.
Please let us know if you have more questions in mind.
Best regards,
Mark

Thanks Mark
I also have a question about a "power wire". Our current thermostat (heat only boiler system) is battery operated. There is no power wire ( I think "C" wire). I have read that the Nest Thermostat, even though it has batteries, may not function without a power wire. Is this true?
Thanks.

Hi there,
Good question, Dominick.
In most cases, Nest Learning Thermostats or Nest Thermostat E can charge their built-in battery using the heating and/or cooling wires. But there are situations where they may need to connect the Nest Power Connector or a common or C wire to consistently deliver power to the thermostat. But if you have the Nest Thermostat (2020), it often requires a C wire to work.
To check for compatibility, try using this tool, and let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
Best regards,
Mark
