Nest Thermostat confusion.

Shame on me. I didn't realize that I was NOT buying a Nest Thermostat E. I bought the cheaper version of the two that were shown on the thermostat page on the Store website. That was always the E model in the past. Now it is something else.

I don't have a functional problem with the unit I bought. It does what it is designed to do. It controls HVAC functionsw and I can see it in the Home app. However, it does NOT do what an E model does. I was unable to incorporate it into the Nest app. It just didn't respond. Google Home only.  It does not allow an independent profile for heating or cooling. You have one profile that has combined settings for heating and cooling. Also, those settings can't be identical. I want 'Comfort' to be 70 degrees for heat and cool. Can't do that. Bump one up and the other goes up too. Dumb. And the temperature sensor I bought is a paperweight because it doesn't work with this unit. The operator interface bothers me too. The touch strip is problematic for me. I can't easily find it. It takes maybe double the time for me to do anything with it. My wife hasn't tried to use it yet. That will not go well.

All in all, I wish I had not bought this unit. I am not happy with how it works and integrates with the home. I would love to return it, but I had it for over a month before I even opened the box. Hopefully, lesson learned. Don't assume and read closer.

Thanks for the reply CBFox. This topic needs no solution. It is a mild rant. As a final comment I would like to say that I am disappointed with the marketing of this product. As far as I am concerned, it is NOT a Nest product. It doesn't work with Nest. It doesn't work with other Nest products. It should have another product name altogether.

I would just like to chime in and say that I'm unhappy with Google for naming that model the "Nest Thermostat" with no modifier.  If they had given it a unique model name  --  like the E and the Learning, which are also Nest Thermostats of course  --  there would be a lot less confusion with purchasing, finding instructions, and asking for help on this forum.  As it is, you have to call this one "the Nest Thermostat not E not Learning just plain Nest Thermostat."

I also sympathize with your frustrations about the limited capabilities of the Nest Thermostat not E not Learning just plain Nest Thermostat.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out. I wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

@pigpen, I understand you’re excited to get started with your new Nest Thermostat. Just like its predecessors, it can also controls both Heat & Cool and most of its settings and features are associated directly in the Google Home App. Few differences are, Nest Thermostat has no learning capability and aesthetically different. To know more how its specifications, here's the link.

@CBFox, the latest version of Nest Thermostat is fully integrated with Google. I understand how frustrating this can be with no specific model name. We hear you — please share us a feedback here, as we care about your thoughts.

Lastly, let us know if you have any other questions or concerns otherwise I will be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Regards,

Mark
