Nest Thermostat isn't running, but the app shows its on

It's currently 70 in the house and the thermostat is set to 74, so should not be running.  The thermostat correctly shows that it's off however the app shows that it's running in Cool Stage 2, regardless of the temp I set.  I rebooted my phone and the app is still showing its on. I didn't find any help particular to this issue online that's recent, most have to do with heat or when using the heat/cold mode. Trane Heat pump was just serviced (biannual maintenance) so thats not the issue.

Thanks for posting here in the community! I'm sorry to hear that your Nest thermostat shows it's on in the app, although it's not actually running. Help's here!

 

It seems like a situation related to the app. To better assist you, I'd like to ask a few questions:

 

  • What model of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • Did you check if the vents are blowing hot or cool air?
  • Have you already performed any troubleshooting steps?
  • Does this happen just for cooling or for heating as well?
