Nest Thermostat model 02A - 2nd generation

Marcelop

I just moved to a house where the old tenant left the Google Nest working for fan, heating, and cooling.

I am trying to add the Thermostat to my Nest account, but the device setup doesn't show the Nest app to get the 7-digit entry key. The thermostat continues showing the old tenant's Nest account and doesn't allow me to connect it to my Nest account.

Questions: How do I see the 7-digit entry key? How do I connect to my account? How do I take the old account off my device?

The device is corrected connected to the house wi-fi and working well.

Please help me.

Thanks.

Hi Marcelop,

Thank you for posting in the community! I'm sorry to hear that you're having inconveniences finding the Entry key to add your thermostat to the Nest app. I'd be happy to help.

Based on the information you provided, it seems like you have a Nest Learning thermostat (2nd generation). You can find the Entry key at the back of the display, above the QR code. Alternatively, you can go to Settings on your Nest thermostat, select "Nest app," and then look for the QR code or Entry key option.

To add the thermostat to the Nest app, try the following steps:

  • Disconnect the thermostat from the app: Go to Settings > Reset > Account Connection. If you don't see this option, proceed to the next step.
  • Perform a factory reset: This will remove all your personal settings. To do this, select “All settings.”
  • Reconnect the thermostat: After the factory reset, add your HVAC information by following the steps on the screen. I recommend connecting the thermostat to your Wi-Fi network first to ensure a stable connection before adding it to the Nest app.

For more detailed instructions, you can refer to this article: Add your Nest thermostat to the Nest app.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hi Nanci, thanks for your reply.

There is no QR code at the back of the display nor a settings-nest app option. How can?

Now I am in doubt if it is really Nest Learning thermostat (2nd generation). I only can see that it is model 02A.

Please let me know what else cam]n be done here.

Thanks.

Hi there!

Sorry to hear you can't find the QR on the thermostat.
Fortunately there is a way to do the set up without scanning the QR code, and it's using the entry key.

Here's how to find it:

  1. Press the ring on your thermostat to open the Quick View menu.
  2. Turn the ring to select Settings.
  3. Turn the ring to select Nest app.
  4. Press the ring to select Get Entry Key.

A 7-character key will appear on the thermostat's screen. You'll need this key to Add your Nest thermostat to the Nest app.

Hope this helps!

Brandon.

Hi Brandon,

Thanks for the reply.

There is no Nest app option when I press the ring, open the quick view menu and enter on the settings. This is the problem since the beginning: I have no Nest app option to get my entry key.

I would send you a video but there is no attachment option here.

Hi, @Marcelop,

Thank you for your response. I understand it's frustrating not being able to find the Nest app option to set up your thermostat. I'm happy to help.

Since you can't find the option to get the entry key, please fill out this form to request a callback. A customer service representative can use a special tool to see your thermostat during the call and guide you through the process of obtaining the entry key.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Ana
